Andrew Furniss directs the Choir of Oriel College, with organists Alexander Morrison and David Maw. The music on this recording represents the liturgical celebrations which take place in College on this day, with elaborate and joyful settings for both Communion service and Evensong.

The new recording by the Choir of Oriel College, under the
direction of Andrew Furniss, explores the two central themes of Candlemas (The Virgin Mary and Light) while Simeon himself is
centre-stage in the exquisite Byrd anthem Senex puerum. The choral
items, sung with limpid phrasing and clear textures, are
interspersed with stylish playing from Andrew Furniss of Marcel
Dupré's four versets on Ave maris stella. This is an imaginative
and eclectic programme, ranging from plainsong to an innovative and
challenging new piece by one of the organists, David Maw. All most
enjoyable."
