Since 1979 the Saint Hugh Singers have sung in more than 30 cathedrals (including twice each at Canterbury and York), abbeys and collegiate chapels. The group is named after St Hugh of Lincoln, many of the members having previously sung on the annual summer course of the Royal School of Church Music at Lincoln Cathedral.

The Singers, a mixed choir of some 40 adults, meet for one or two weekends each year, usually just after Easter and/or early September. The first rehearsal is on Friday afternoon, each singer having studied the music in advance. The choir sings evensong on the Saturday and two or three services on the Sunday. Accommodation is in hotels or single bedrooms at university halls of residence. In order to maintain high standards, members periodically take an audition.
