St John’s first admitted women students in 1979 and in October 2013, the two-thousandth woman matriculated. This milestone has been marked through a series of events in 2014 and 2015 to celebrate, inspire and sustain the achievements of the College’s women. Including ‘Song of Wisdom’ by Richard Shephard written specially as part of these celebrations. Richard also directed its first performance in St John’s College Chapel on 2 November 2014. The anthem, and its depiction of the female figure of Wisdom, gives a focus to our salute to the women of St John’s, past, present and future.
